browser comparison

browser-comparison 2009-11-21

i haven't bothered to "benchmark" browsers with anything fancy but basically speaking, it's obvious that IE7 and even IE8 are slower than the "alternative" browsers...

this is common sense because the only way to get people to change (learning curve, migrating bookmarks, etc.) is to give them something better... and browsing depends first on speed, then on features.

So, we'll start with the obvious stuff:

BROWSER RAM USED SPEED LOADING A PAGE TABS open

Safari 260MB youtube = 2.5 "thousands said out loud" 1 Opera 100MB youtube = 2 12 Firefox 143MB youtube = 2.5 5 IE7 50MB youtube = 4 1

Features/functionality are the deal makers/breakers...

Microsoft force you to use IE if you're using MS WSS, or MS CRM... so...

Firefox has a free and huge list of "plugins" that do everything (make cofee even?)...

Safari works on a Max... and it looks very Apple.

Chrome will eventually synch your Google Docs, have connections to Google stuffs (maps?)...
