Vmware esx 4 1 usb

vmware-esx-4-1-usb

Note I was unable to get this to work... =( ESX 4.1 has a specific list of "approved USB hardware" so maybe...

plug in the usb drive (stick)

dmesg | tail [10187.559651] scsi7 : usb-storage [10401.781054] scsi8 : usb-storage

tail /var/log/dmesg 70.363412] Non-volatile memory driver v1.2 [ 73.375620] floppy0: no floppy controllers found [ 74.600940] EXT3 FS on sdd5, internal journal [ 74.705550] kjournald starting. Commit interval 5 seconds [ 74.705909] EXT3 FS on sdc1, internal journal [ 74.705915] EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. [ 74.767007] kjournald starting. Commit interval 5 seconds [ 74.767355] EXT3 FS on sdd2, internal journal

FYI

/dev/sdc = 1000 GB

VMware VMKCORE

/dev/sdd = 8GB

fastscp needed a "non free" email address

right click on the install and choose "install as administrator"

when prompted for the username & pass you might use your local admin user/pass

When creating a job you may have to choose the checkbox (force as console!) so that you are using root user in console (don't bother with the evevated privileges and "agentless" stuff)
