Vmware esxi 4 1 import vmx vmdk

  1. In the vSphere client, click on the server.
  2. Click on the summary tab.
  3. Right click on datastore -> Browse Datastore
  4. Upload (icon with the up arrow in front of some disks)
  5. Upload the folder or files that you require.
  6. Create a new (or use an existing) VM and use the vmdk file you have uploaded.

Alternatively,

  1. VSphere Client -> File -> Export -> Export OVF Template
  2. Select destination (e.g. Desktop)
  3. It makes a Folder with the .ovf and .vmdk
  4. VSphere Client -> Deploy OVF -> browse to Folder for .ovf file

Alternatively, use "ovftool" to package your VMX into an OVF (for deployment).

Alternatively use VMWare vCenter Converter

  1. Login to local machine
  2. Browse for .vmx and .vmdk files
  3. Choose destination (e.g. ip address of ESXi)
